thigh lift

A thigh lift, also known as a thigh lift, is a surgical procedure that aims to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the thighs. This procedure is often performed on people who have experienced significant weight loss or who have significantly sagging skin on their thighs due to age or genetic predisposition.

When is a thigh lift an option?

Excess skin can develop on the thighs due to age-related skin sagging or after losing weight. Due to the decline in skin elasticity, exercise or dieting usually do not lead to the desired results.

The sagging tissue can lead to physical problems with chafing and rubbing when wearing certain items of clothing or during movement. Affected patients are often reluctant to undress, e.g. when bathing.

Surgery can remove the excess tissue and tighten the thigh skin. The contour of the thighs can be reshaped or regained in this way.

Brief overview:

Duration of treatment:
2-4 hours (depending on the area)

Anaesthesia:
General anaesthesia

Follow-up treatment:
6 weeks wearing a compression garment

Load restrictions:
1-2 weeks, no sport in the first few weeks

What different surgical methods are there?

Depending on the severity, various surgical options can be used:

  • A small amount of excess skin can be removed by the tightening process of the Liposuction be eliminated
  • If the skin is extremely loose, a surgical tightening is performed. Where possible, the scars are placed in the existing skin folds from the groin to the buttocks.
  • Additional liposuction often helps to improve the result (e.g. in the case of so-called saddlebags).

Advantages of a thigh lift

  • Improved skin elasticity and structure: By removing excess skin and fatty tissue, the skin on the thighs becomes firmer and smoother.
  • Increased self-confidence: Many patients report increased self-esteem and improved body image after the procedure.
  • Reduced friction: Removing excess skin can help to minimise friction and the resulting skin irritation.

The intervention

The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes between two and three hours, depending on the extent of the procedure. There are various thigh lift techniques that are used depending on the patient's individual needs and anatomical conditions. As part of your consultation and preliminary examination, we will determine which method is best for you. We will also clarify whether any alternative forms of therapy would be more suitable for you.

After the operation

Patients should expect a recovery period of several weeks after the operation. Swelling, bruising and pain are to be expected in the first few days after the procedure, but these can be treated with painkillers.

Aftercare and care

To support the healing process and avoid complications, patients should observe the following aftercare instructions:

  • After the operation you will be given a specially adapted compression girdle, which you should wear day and night for 6 weeks to reduce swelling and support skin healing.
  • Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting in the first few weeks after the operation.
  • Regular check-ups with us to monitor the healing process.
  • Intensive skin care to improve the limited elasticity can have a supportive effect.
  • To avoid rare but serious complications, we usually carry out thrombosis and antibiotic prophylaxis.

Risks and complications of the operation

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications with a thigh lift. These include infections, bleeding, scarring, asymmetries and reactions to the anaesthetic. We will provide you with comprehensive advice and clarify all your questions and concerns in the run-up to the operation.

Thigh lift with BTL Exilis Elite ™ without surgery

Associated terms:
Skin tightening and skin smoothing, thigh lifting, body shaping, fat reduction with radio frequency and ultrasound, radio frequency

BTL EXILIS ELITE™ is a non-invasive treatment system that combines two proven physical elements, namely ultrasound and radiofrequency, with integrated cooling. This combination is combined in one applicator (handpiece).
The thermal effect of radiofrequency results in collagen shrinking, which makes it possible to tighten the skin. The heat causes the fibres to contract and stimulate new formation. This makes the skin firmer, small wrinkles are smoothed out and cellulite is improved. As a rule, 4 treatments at intervals of 1-3 weeks are recommended, and the effect is immediate. However, the final result is only visible 3 months after the treatment. Immediately after the treatment, you will be slightly reddened for about an hour, but otherwise immediately fit for socialising. This new, gentle and effective technique is particularly suitable for gentle thigh lifting.

The therapy can also be used against the unloved orange peel skin (cellulite). It can be combined very well with shock wave therapy, the XWAVE™.

Brief overview:

Duration of treatment:
30-45 minutes (depending on the region)
4 sessions required at intervals of 1-2 weeks

Anaesthesia:
Not necessary, not painful

Follow-up treatment:
None, No downtime

Load restrictions:
none

Conclusion

A thigh lift can be an effective way to remove excess skin and fatty tissue and improve the contours and appearance of the thighs. With the right aftercare and thorough preparation, most patients can reap the benefits of this procedure. A detailed consultation will ensure that the thigh lift is suitable for your individual needs and goals.
