Scars can be the result of injuries, operations, acne or other skin damage. They are not only aesthetically displeasing, but can also cause pain, itching and restricted movement. Fortunately, there are numerous methods of scar correction that help to reduce the appearance and discomfort.

When is scar correction an option?

Scar correction may be considered if the scar is particularly noticeable and affects self-confidence, or if the scar causes physical discomfort. This includes pain, itching or restricted movement. Aesthetic reasons also play a role, especially if the scar is in a visible area such as the face or hands.

Brief overview of scar correction:

Operation duration:
30 -90 minutes, depending on expansion

Anaesthesia:
Local anaesthesia, possibly combined with twilight sleep or anaesthesia

Follow-up treatment:
Depending on the findings, special wound dressings and scar therapies, compression treatment

Load restrictions:
depending on the region

The scar correction procedure

Counselling and examination

The first step in scar correction is a comprehensive consultation and examination. During this appointment, the scar is thoroughly assessed and possible treatment methods are discussed. Factors such as the size, depth, colour and origin of the scar are assessed in order to develop an individual treatment strategy.

Treatment plan

After the examination, we create a customised treatment plan. This may include a combination of different methods tailored to the patient's specific needs. The plan will also include the number of sessions, the expected duration of treatment and the expected results.

Preparation for the treatment

Patients may need to make certain preparations before the actual treatment. This may include applying special creams, taking medication or avoiding certain activities. We will give you precise instructions to maximise the success of your treatment.

Treatment

The treatment itself may vary depending on the method. Some techniques do not require anaesthesia and can be performed in the doctor's office, while other procedures may require local or even general anaesthesia and must be performed in an operating theatre.

Aftercare

Once treatment has been completed, aftercare is crucial for the healing process and the final result. This may include the application of creams, wearing compression garments, regular check-ups and adherence to certain behavioural rules. We will give you detailed instructions for aftercare.

Methods of scar correction

Depending on the initial situation, we can offer you the following different methods of scar correction:

Lipofilling

Lipofilling is a medical treatment in which your own fatty tissue is used to fill or fill out other parts of the body. This is also known as autologous fat injection or autologous fat grafting.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive method that is becoming increasingly popular for scar correction. Small needles are used to penetrate the skin and stimulate collagen production. This leads to an improvement in the skin structure and a reduction in the scar. Microneedling can be carried out both in the practice and at home using special equipment.

RF Mesoneedling

Radiofrequency needling, or RF needling for short, has established itself over the last few years in terms of skin rejuvenation and collagen production because it delivers excellent results and improves skin quality in the long term. We use a special 3-in-1 procedure for this, which, in addition to radio frequency energy and microneedling, also offers the option of introducing an additional substance (e.g. skin booster, polynucleotides, etc.), which further improves the appearance of scars.

Surgical scar correction

Surgical correction may be necessary for particularly large or deep scars. This involves removing the scar and re-stitching the skin. This method requires careful planning and aftercare in order to achieve optimal results.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which the top layer of skin is removed mechanically. This is done using a rotating instrument containing fine particles. The treatment is effective in reducing scars, but requires several sessions as it is a very gentle method.

Injections

Injections of corticosteroids or other medications can help to improve the appearance of hypertrophic or keloid scars. This method can relieve pain and itching and soften and flatten the scar. Multiple sessions are often required to achieve optimal results.

Chemical peelings

Chemical peels use special solutions to remove the top layer of skin and promote skin renewal. This treatment can improve the appearance of shallow scars and smooth the skin texture. Depending on the peel used, the healing time may vary.

Which method is best for scar correction?

The best method for scar correction depends on various factors, including the type and depth of the scar and the condition of the person's skin. We can therefore only give you a recommendation after an examination.

Which method is best for scar correction?

Are creams better than scar therapy?

Creams can be complementary in the treatment of scars, particularly in moisturising and protecting the skin. They are often a more non-invasive option than other scar therapies.

However, the effectiveness of creams depends heavily on the type and depth of the scar, as well as the active ingredients they contain. While creams can improve the appearance of shallow and small scars, deeper scars are better treated with more intensive treatments such as chemical peels, RF mesoneedling or microneedling.

Can a scar be removed completely?

A scar will not disappear completely. But with the right methods and a customised treatment strategy, the appearance of scars can be significantly improved in many cases.

Can old scars still be treated

Yes, old scars can be treated. They require more attention than new scars, but special scar creams, chemical peels, RF mesoneedling and microneedling can improve the appearance.

Conclusion on scar correction / removal

Scarring is always very individualised. Scar correction is therefore a complex process that requires careful planning and aftercare. We will be happy to advise you on a suitable method and create a customised treatment strategy to improve the appearance of your scars.
