Dissolve hyaluronan with hyaluronidase
Hylase treatment
Correction of an injection with hyaluronic acid

Even though the aim of every aesthetic treatment should be to produce a satisfactory result, patients may not be happy with the outcome, especially if the treatment is not carried out professionally. In the worst case scenario, complications can also arise that require urgent treatment. This is where hylase/hyaluronidase plays an important role in aesthetic medicine, especially in connection with hyaluronic acid fillers. This is because hylase is an enzyme that is able to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers if an aesthetic result is unsatisfactory, has been over-corrected or appears asymmetrical, or if complications arise as a result of treatment. Therefore, every serious doctor should always have hyaluronidase available.
What is hyaluronidase?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that has the ability to break down hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the body that is found in many tissues such as skin, eyes and joints and plays an important role in moisture retention and tissue structure. It is used in aesthetic medicine to reduce or neutralise the effect of hyaluronic acid-based fillers or to dissolve them again.
What can be treated with hyaluronidase?
Treatment of complications
In addition to visually unattractive results, undesirable side effects such as nodule formation, swelling or vascular occlusion can occur in rare cases after a hyaluronic acid injection. Hylase can act quickly in such situations and minimise complications.
Treatment of undesirable effects after injections of hyaluronic acid preparations
If a wrinkle treatment or lip correction with hyaluronic acid fillers produces undesirable results, such as uneven contours or overcorrections, hyaluronidase can be used to break down the filler again.
Combination with other aesthetic procedures
Hylase is sometimes used to break down old or excess filler before a new filler treatment is performed. This allows a more harmonious result to be achieved.
Safety and flexibility for aesthetic procedures
The ability to re-dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers can offer patients greater safety during aesthetic procedures. If a treatment does not have the desired effect, it can be reversed or corrected. Nevertheless, the aim of an aesthetic hyaluronic acid injection should always be a satisfactory result that makes the use of hylase unnecessary.
Emergency corrections
In the event of complications such as vascular occlusion and impending tissue death (tissue necrosis) or an adverse reaction, the enzyme can help to remove the hyaluronic acid quickly and thus prevent more serious consequences such as tissue necrosis.

Is a hyaluronidase treatment painful?
Hyaluronidase treatment is generally not very painful, as the enzyme is injected directly into the affected tissue, similar to the injection of hyaluronic acid fillers. However, a slight, temporary burning sensation is not uncommon. This discomfort is usually minor and subsides quickly. For patients who are sensitive to pain, we offer treatment with a local anaesthetic or anaesthetic cream.
What needs to be considered after Hylase treatment?
After treatment, slight pain or swelling may occur at the injection site. However, these symptoms are only temporary and usually disappear within a few hours to a few days.
Why should I only have a hyaluronidase treatment carried out by a specialist?
Hyaluronidase is a prescription-only medication that can only be purchased by doctors. However, hyaluronidase treatment should only be carried out by a qualified specialist with precise anatomical knowledge in order to minimise the risk of side effects such as overcorrection or pain.
Cost of treatment Hyaluronidase
Flat-rate prices are not permitted in aesthetic medicine. Each invoice must be prepared individually based on the treatment required. The scale of fees for doctors (GOÄ) specifies how invoices must be prepared.
Does a hyaluronidase treatment have to be repeated?
A hyaluronidase treatment can be repeated in some cases. This depends on several factors, such as the amount and type of hyaluronic acid filler used.
For example, more cross-linked hyaluronic acids (e.g. for deep volume augmentation) are often more resistant and may require several sessions to be completely broken down. Several sessions may also be necessary for large quantities.
In addition, the individual reaction of the body also influences how quickly a patient responds to the treatment. Furthermore, the medication should always be used with caution, as it can dissolve not only the hyaluronic acid introduced from outside but also the body's own hyaluronic acid.
Whether several treatments are necessary depends on the individual case. As a rule, we wait a few days after the first injection to assess the result. If there are still residues of the filler, a repeat session can be carried out
Who can inject Hylase?
In Germany, Hylase, also known as hyaluronidase, may only be administered by medically qualified specialists. As it is a prescription-only medication, treatment is only authorised by doctors.
