Inverted nipple correction / correction of retracted nipples

Even if the nipple itself appears symmetrical, nipples that are pulled inwards, so-called inverted nipples, can be a visual burden. But that's not all, because as well as being visually unpleasant, they can also cause inflammation or affect breastfeeding.

Sometimes, however, it is not only inverted nipples that are perceived as disturbing, but also unevenly sized or too large areolas can be perceived as disturbing. This can be treated with Nipple correction be remedied.

Both inverted nipples and the formation of areolas are due to a genetic predisposition.

The operation to correct the nipple

In the case of inverted nipples, the cause is a shortening of the milk ducts, which pull the normally protruding nipple inwards. It is possible to correct this change by making a small incision to loosen the milk ducts, pushing out the sunken nipple and fixing it with certain sutures. Even if the ability to breastfeed may already be impaired by the inverted nipple beforehand, it should be noted that the ability to breastfeed will no longer exist after this procedure.

In some cases, injections of the nipples with hyaluronic acid may be an option instead of a surgical solution. We would be happy to advise you on this.

How is a inverted nipple correction performed?

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and in most cases under local anaesthesia. For particularly anxious patients, however, our anaesthesia team also offers a type of twilight sleep. The procedure takes about 1 hour, sometimes less.

Recommended for breast surgery

What needs to be considered after inverted nipple correction?

After the correction of your inverted nipples, you will wear a special bandage for 2 weeks to straighten the nipples and prevent pressure on the operated nipple during wound healing. The stitches can be removed after 2-3 weeks. You should also avoid sport, saunas, tanning beds and sunbathing for at least 2 weeks.

How long do the results of a inverted nipple correction last?

The correction of inverted nipples is a permanent solution that lasts a lifetime, as the nipples are permanently stabilised in their new position. However, like everything else, the result is subject to factors such as skin ageing and weight gain or loss.

Is a inverted nipple correction painful?

You will not feel anything during the outpatient procedure due to the local anaesthetic. Afterwards, you will feel the same as with any other area of the body where incisions are made: Slight soreness and tenderness in the treated area. However, no pain is to be expected due to the special dressing.

What are the risks?

This may be followed by sensory disturbances, slight swelling, bruising and, in very rare cases, secondary haemorrhaging. However, these risks are all temporary. Inflammation or infections in the milk duct system rarely occur, which must then be treated with antibiotics.

How much does a inverted nipple correction cost?

The costs for a nipple correction depend on the local findings. The calculation is based on the GoÄ (scale of fees for doctors). We can therefore only give you a binding cost estimate during a personal consultation.

In a personal and individual consultation, we will be happy to analyse your wishes and expectations and discuss in detail the realistic results to be expected, conceivable risks and any possible complications in order to design a treatment concept that is right for you.
