Basic information on liposuction / body contouring

Liposuction is a gentle method of removing fat and removing stubborn fat deposits that hardly change even with considerable weight loss (diet) or sporting activities.

It is used to shape the figure and harmonise the body image. Liposuction is not suitable for weight loss. However, the procedure is also no guarantee against weight gain. Although the removed fat cells cannot form again, the remaining fat cells on the body can increase beyond normal levels if the calorie intake is excessive.

Targeted liposuction permanently removes the fat deposits that are perceived as disturbing.

They can occur anywhere on the body, but especially on the abdomen, hips, buttocks, upper and lower legs, upper arms and in the face and neck area.

One of the favourite problem areas in women is the so-called breeches deformity with circumscribed fat deposits on the outer thighs. Banana deformity refers to a fat pad at the transition between the buttocks and thighs.

Men often have problem areas on their stomach, hips (love handles) and male breasts.

If liposuction is performed on the abdomen, it can be performed with a Abdominoplasty can be combined.

The conventional method of liposuction is the tumescent technique. Here we suck out the fat using a special solution of electrolytes, a local anaesthetic and a substance to constrict the blood vessels.

We also offer the much gentler vibration-assisted technique, also known as Power Assisted Lipoplasty (PAL), for liposuction. The fine vibration gently releases the fat cells from the tissue, which can then be easily suctioned out through cannulas just millimetres in size. As not only the fat cells themselves but also a large proportion of the locally injected fluid can be removed in this way, the result can be easily assessed during the operation. In addition, there is less need for painkillers, shorter treatment times, rapid recovery of well-being and ability to work. There is also less swelling and bruising.

In order to optimise the desired cosmetic effect, a prior assessment of the skin quality is essential.

To support skin shrinkage and body contouring, a specially adapted girdle should be worn for approx. 6 weeks after the operation. Specialised skin care for those affected can also help to tighten the skin again.

Together with our experienced cosmetics team, we have also developed measures to optimise the results. These and many other aspects will be discussed with you in a personalised consultation.
